What is it?

Gum disease is the most common chronic disease in society. It is an infectious disease of the soft tissue and bone tissue surrounding the tooth. The main cause of this disease is that pathogens or micro-organisms capable of causing disease cause infection around the teeth.

Gum Diseases

Gum diseases are defined in two main groups.

  1. Gingivitis: It is inflammation limited to the gums. In a way, it defines the early stage infection of inflammation occurring in the surrounding tissues of the tooth. If treated, the surrounding tissues of the tooth regain their former health without any damage to the tissue.
  2. Periodontitis As a result of the progression of untreated gingivitis disorders, it is the stage of infection in which the destruction of the connective tissue fibers that provide the connection between the bone supporting the tooth and the tooth-bone occurs. If the infection at this stage is not treated, there may be tissue destruction that may cause tooth loss.

FAQ

The most important findings seen in early period gum diseases;

  • Bleeding during brushing and flossing,
  • Redness
  • Edema and swelling
  • Tooth sensitivity can be listed as follows.

In addition to these, in advanced gum diseases, bad breath (halitosis), swaying of the teeth (luxation), excessive gingival recession and the impression of elongation in the visual dimensional appearance of the teeth, inflammation flow can be observed in the pressure on the gums.

First of all, it is important to mention one important point. The best treatment is preventive treatment and it is very important to consult your dentist at least twice a year and receive professional cleaning support from him/her in order to protect your gum health.

However, treatment approaches vary according to the degree of progression of gum disorders. In this context

Professional deep plaque and tartar cleaning is performed for the treatment of gingivitis (gingivitis) . For a comfortable treatment, the sessions can be performed under anesthesia and can be divided into separate sessions. Especially in deep plaque accumulations that need to be worked under anesthesia, root planning and root face smoothing procedures are applied, and rough surfaces that will repeat plaque accumulation are eliminated. If there are deep gingival pockets that will provide a host environment for pathogenic structures, gingival surgery is performed with laser-assisted or conventional (traditional) methods and deep gingival pockets are eliminated surgically.

It is the process of taking soft tissue transplants from different parts of the patient’s mouth and placing them in the inadequate gingival area in order to rehabilitate the reduction in the amount of gingiva that should be in physiological volume and dimensions and gingival weakening. Thus, the exposed root surfaces are covered, the existing sensitivity is eliminated and aesthetics are provided.

It is the process of placing bone particles taken from the patient’s own bone tissue (autogenous) or synthetic (alloplastic), animal-derived (xenograft), cadaver-derived (alloplastic) graft materials into the damaged hard tissue areas according to the indication in advanced gum diseases and hard tissue destruction. It is for the rehabilitation of lost tissues.
There is also a separate procedure called directed bone regeneration, in which a barrier is placed around the damaged tissue to support the regeneration of the destroyed hard tissue. This barrier provides sufficient volume for bone formation and time for the bone tissue to heal.
